Rossfreight's history encompasses a period of almost 50 years of continuous service. Beginning as a husband and wife team and growing as a family business over many years, there remains a strong family presence throughout the organisation. Initially, the focus of the company was servicing the central Sydney areas from its Alexandria base. Its customers at that time came mainly from the Fashion and Pharmaceutical sectors. In 1987 Rossfreight experienced enormous structural changes both in direction and perception of its position within the express market. Firstly, the NSW country delivery network was developed to ensure that the company could compete equally with any express company. Secondly, the range of services was expanded to include permanent hire, taxi truck, linehaul and transport management. The company's focus remains on enhancing its ability to provide NSW's foremost overnight delivery service. The company developed a purpose built facility in Villawood in 1997 capable of handling the rapidly increasing volumes of parcel freight with sufficient spare capacity to satisfy anticipated volumes over the next few years. New facilities in Newcastle that were opened in January 2002 have set the standard for regional hubs throughout the NSW country areas. In 1999 Rossfreight continued it's long standing development of its own internal computer systems with HYDRA, it's third generation system. This system already integrates sales, customer service and billing systems. The addition of a POD scanning system was completed in late 2001, while development is well under way for an Internet gateway and integration with the existing fleet GPS tracking facilities. Integration with customer systems is easily achieved by using standard interface components. Rossfreight has shown over this time that it can provide services to its customers matching or excelling any of its competitors. Rossfreight expects that through its clear understanding of its capabilities, staff and systems that it will continue to provide leading service and economic benefit to its customers for many years to come.
